Sample Contract

Project Agreement

Between: Nick Parry (Major Web Design)

And: {contact_firstname} {contact_lastname} ({client_company})

Project Value: {contract_contract_value}

1. Our Commitment

  • Me: I will deliver a professional, responsive website in a timely manner and keep all your business information confidential.
  • You: You have the authority to hire me. You’ll provide the necessary assets (logos, text, images) in the requested formats and provide feedback promptly to keep us on schedule.

2. Design & Content

  • Interactive Design: I build layouts that adapt to all screen sizes using WordPress. I don’t provide static mockups; we work directly on a development site.
  • Text & Images: You are responsible for all content. I will copy/paste your text exactly as provided. Please ensure you have checked for spelling and have the legal right to use all images supplied.
  • Assets: To keep things organized, please email content for each page separately, using the page title as the subject line.

3. Testing & Support

  • Browsers: I test on current versions of major browsers (like Chrome and Safari). Testing for older or niche browsers is available for an extra fee.
  • Hosting: I offer a managed hosting package for £72/year (or £6/month). If you use your own hosting, I do not provide technical support for it unless agreed separately.

4. Revisions & Updates

  • Included Revisions: You get 3 free rounds of revisions.
    • Round 1: After the first draft.
    • Round 2: After the final version.
    • Round 3: A final "safety net" for small tweaks.
  • Post-Live Updates: In Year 1, you get 3 small updates (swapping images, changing prices, etc.) for free. After Year 1, this service is £30/year.
  • Extras: Any major changes or additional work outside the original scope are charged at £35/hour.

5. SEO & Rankings

I build your site to be "search engine friendly" using industry-standard tools (Yoast SEO). While I follow best practices for site structure, I cannot guarantee a #1 spot on Google, as rankings depend heavily on your content and competition.

6. Ownership & Intellectual Property

  • You Own: The website design, visual elements, and the data/text you provided (once the final invoice is paid).
  • I Own: Any code or tools I developed prior to this project. I also reserve the right to include a small "Designed by Major Web Design" link in the footer and display the project in my portfolio.

7. Legalities

  • Liability: I work to high standards, but I cannot be held liable for lost profits or damages resulting from the website. My total liability is limited to the amount paid under this contract.
  • Termination: If you decide to cancel mid-project, you agree to pay for all work completed up to that date.
  • Jurisdiction: This contract is a legal document under the exclusive jurisdiction of the English and Welsh courts.

8. Payment Schedule

To keep our project on track, we will follow this schedule:

  1. Deposit: £50 (required to start design and secure domains).
  2. First Draft: £100 (due once the first draft is delivered for review).
  3. Completion: Remaining Balance (due before the site goes live).

Payment Method: Bank transfer (details provided on each electronic invoice).
